Avatar Comes Out On Top At Golden Globes

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. Sunday night, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association handed out the Annual Golden Globe Awards and the winners may have boosted their chances in Hollywood's race for the Oscars.

The 3D Action-Adventure "Avatar" took double honors at the Golden Globes, winning Best Film Drama and top director for "Titanic" filmmaker James Cameron.

"We all have the best job in the world, and we make entertainment for a global audience," said Cameron, Best Director.

"The Hangover", about guys on a trip to Las Vegas that goes wrong in so many ways, won for Best Film Comedy. The honors could give both movies momentum for Best Picture Oscars.

Meryl Streep received her own Oscar boost, taking the Golden Globe for best Actress in a Comedy or Musical for her portrayal of TV chef Julia Child in "Julie and Julia."

"In my long career … played so many extraordinary women, that basically I' m getting mistaken for one," said Streep.

But, it was not all festive in Beverly Hills. Many stars wore yellow, blue and red ribbons to show their support for the victims of the Haiti earthquake disaster.

"In the midst of all this, please remember how to get involved and offer your support for the people of Haiti," said Maggie Gyllenhall, Actress.

And stars didn't hesitate to criticize NBC for scheduling Jay Leno in a time slot usually reserved for scripted shows. The peacock network is pulling the plug on that experiment, but still …

"NBC, you guys are in the toilet right now!," said Julia Roberts.

But now it's time to circle March 7th on your calendar - for the annual Oscar party.
