Puppy Love, and Heartbreak

FRESNO, Calif. Gabriella Garcia's optic nerve never developed. She can only see shadows. She loves to read. She was taught Braille as a pre-schooler. She now has the Harry Potter collection of books in Braille. But more than reading Gabriella loves Ray Charles - her very first dog.

Gabriella said, "He was blind and I wanted someone like me. I was very attached to him and I took care of him. I'd show him places ... and I'd call him by saying, 'Here Ray (snap, snap, snap).'"

While Gabriella was at school on Tuesday her dad had the puppy out in the yard. Rudy Bustamante said he briefly went to the backyard. When he returned Ray Charles was gone.

Rudy Bustamante said, "I think someone picked him up. I don't want to use the word stolen, but I can't think of any other way he would've gone because he wouldn't have left the yard."

Gabriella said, "We just want him back ... no questions asked ... no hard feelings ... we just want the dog back."

Ray Charles is a little German Shepherd with steel blue eyes. If you see him, or you know where he is, call little Gabriella or her father Rudy at 846-9812 or 287-4957.
