New apartments for Downtown Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. A bounce house and colorful tents filled the lot where developers plan to build the Bastian Court apartments at Stanislaus and "l" streets.

The mixed use development would include 60 low income apartments with retail space on the bottom floors.

It goes before the planning commission next week.

Cornerstone Church is part of the team pushing for the apartments.

"We wanted to see housing come here, because we recognize its not brick and mortar that builds a downtown, you have to have that, but you have to have people. And we looked for the right kind of partners, we believe we've found that, to bring people into this downtown area," said Pastor Jim Franklin, Cornerstone Church.

A non-profit development corporation from San Francisco is also behind the project.

Pending approval - Franklin says it could break ground as soon as the fall.
