Diabetes drug Avandia linked to heart failure

Fresno, CA The New York Times is reporting that government officials want the diabetes drug Avandia pulled from the market.

Hundreds of thousands of people take the drug, but the Times says new government reports link it to heart failure and heart attacks.

These latest reports come three years after the FDA decided to keep Avandia on the market despite concerns about possible ties to heart problems.

Glaxo Smith Kline - the company that makes the drug - still says there is no scientific evidence that shows Avandia increases the risk of heart attacks.
