The shooting happened on 12th Street near Canal late Wednesday afternoon.

The roads in the area were blocked off as officers tried to figure out if the shooting suspect was still in the neighborhood.

Police say the shooting happened Wednesday afternoon following an argument between some young men in the area.

Neighbors reported hearing gunshots, and when officers arrived they found one man who's believed to be in his twenties about a block away with a gunshot wound.

He has since been flown to the hospital.

Police have already detained a few people as they try to figure out who is involved in this shooting, but they're concerned the actual shooter may still be on the loose.

So they've brought in the SWAT team and evacuated some homes in the area as a precaution.

The shooting happened only a couple of blocks away from a police substation in South Merced.

Neighbors say that makes it even more shocking.

Officers do believe the shooting is gang related.
