The district wants to cut more than ten full time intensive intervention teachers for English language learners. This is part of phase two of the district's $35-million dollars in budget cuts.

The first round of cuts were approved two weeks ago, affecting nearly 250 teaching positions.

The district's chief financial officer says they want to get rid of the program not the teachers.

Ruth Quinto said, "Site leaders at our middle school who said that in its current form the intensive ... need to do something different."

The second phase of cuts also includes deferring maintenance projects and increasing reductions at the district's central office.

Board members will vote on the proposals next month.
