This home video taken in Yuma captures water spilling out of a swimming pool at the exact moment the earthquake hit.

Miles away in El Cajon, a city just outside San Diego, and this surveillance camera starts shaking.....as curious neighbors exit their homes.

We spoke with one Fresno native...who was in Santa Barbara when the earthquake hit. "We noticed all the chandeliers in the house shaking like crazy and felt a little trembling and the pool was, the water in the pool was shaking back and forth."

Another Central Valley native described the scene in San Diego.

"But it was big. It was 45 seconds. We've had three aftershocks….a couple of them were thirty seconds each and definitely pretty strong."

The earthquake originated 20 miles from the border of California in Baja, right along the San Andreas Fault.

Buildings in Mexicali collapsed.......and roads in the area are now uplifted and cracked. At least two people in Mexico have died.

Fresno State geology professor Keith Putirka says Sunday's massive quake could help experts predict the next big one.

"Yesterday, there were earthquakes in the order of 4.0 to 3.7, and I think for seismologists that might be very interesting especially for people looking for precursors, some way to predict large earthquakes. Large earthquakes aren't always preceded by these smaller foreshocks, but this one was."
