Peace and Freedom candidates gather in Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, Calif. Six candidates for statewide office -- including two 23-year-olds -- gathered on the steps of the Capitol Saturday to promote their anti-war, socialist platform.

The candidates acknowledge it will nearly impossible to beat major-party candidates like Meg Whitman, who has spent over $46 million in pursuit of the Republican gubernatorial nomination.

But Carlos Alvarez, a 23-year-old Peace and Freedom candidate for governor, says it's important to give voters options. His ideas include halting Iraq war funding for one day to close the deficit in California's higher education system.
