Megan Martzen Arrested for Death of Reedley Toddler

FRESNO, Calif.

Martzen was babysitting the toddler when she suffered what the coroner described as blunt force trauma to the head and abdomen.

The suspect, Megan Martzen has been under investigation for more than a year. But her last posting on Facebook said, "I just keep looking at my life and thinking how blessed I am."

Martzen is married, 19-years-old, and five months pregnant and in jail, accused in the death of Ella Vanleeuen. The toddler died of traumatic injuries believed to have been suffered while in Martzens care last year.

The autopsy report from the Fresno County Coroner's Office lists the cause of death as "blunt force trauma" to the head and chest. The report notes the child suffered a four and a half inch long skull fracture, and four broken ribs.

While the autopsy was completed last year, the district attorney's office wanted more tests before filing charges.

We visited the Reedley neighborhood where Martzen used to live. Neighbors told us Martzen told them the child fell while jumping on the bed and hit her head.

A spokesman for the child's family said family members did not want to comment, but indicated they were relieved an arrest has finally been made.

/*Megan Martzen*/ is being held on two-million dollars bail.
