Clovis man arrested for child pornography

FRESNO, Calif.

According to federal documents just filed, 57-year-old /*Derek Pitre*/ wrote a sexually explicit letter to a young girl. A warning -- this story may not be suitable for younger viewers.

According to this federal criminal complaint, Derek Pitre revealed he had growing feelings for a girl who wasn't even a teenager yet. Investigators say Pitre was doing more than collecting inappropriate pictures of young girls.

A search of hard drives found at the Clovis apartment Derek Pitre Rented revealed nine emails investigators say the suspect wrote to child pornography websites about his infatuation with buying porn involving kids.

He wrote in part quote: "For those of us who have learned to live with the burning and intense desire and need for intimate contact with a Lolita, your site is an absolute godsend."

Although investigators have no reason to believe Pitre acted on his feelings, court records describe a letter he wrote in early April to a minor. It says in part: "I have noticed that the nature of my feelings for you have changed over the past two years, this past year especially. What the change is, is I now look at you as a young woman not a girl, and as a result I have a powerful sexual desire for you." He goes on to say: "I am taking a really big chance and risk in writing this letter to you. Worst of all, I'm taking the chance you'll tell someone and I will go to prison for a long time."

During an interview Pitre told investigators the letter was for the 12-year-old granddaughter of a family friend. After making that statement he requested an attorney.

Last week investigators searched a Clovis storage unit the suspect rented. Officers found thousands of child pornography images in boxes and bags they say Pitre printed out.

When Pitre was arrested officers found a black trash bag filled with child porn in his trunk. He told officers the bag was put there by several unknown males while he was asleep under a bridge.

Investigators say Pitre was unemployed at the time of his arrest, but he had a current license as a speech pathologist. Although he used to work with children who have disorders ... there's no evidence to suggest he did anything inappropriate.

With the federal charges, he is now unable to bail out of jail.
