"The format will allow the voters to get to know the candidates and their differing positions on the issues in a candid environment," debate producer Scott Regberg explained. The League of Women Voters will advise on the details of the format and will be seated in the front row, timing each candidate's remarks to ensure equal time.
They clashed on a number of topics, but all three were in agreement that a Republican has a very good chance at beating /*Barbara Boxer*/ come November.
The three candidates tried to connect with their base in the weeks before the June primary, each trying to be more conservative than the next. The candidates were asked about everything from offshore drilling, to taxes, to illegal immigration.
In a recent ABC7 Eyewitness News Poll, former Congressman Tom Campbell had a slight lead over former Hewlett-Packard Chief Carly Fiorina, with state Assemblyman Chuck DeVore in third place. But after the debate, all three felt like their messages are resonating with voters.
Fiorina says she's proud of her endorsement from Sarah Palin.
DeVore said that we should be more worried about China than we are about the Taliban.
The election is June 8, with the winner of the Republican primary expected to run against Democratic incumbent Barbara Boxer in the general election in November.
