Fresno Police: Infant's death caused by 6-year-old brother

FRESNO, Calif. Police detectives have spent the past week looking into the circumstances surrounding the baby's death. The newborn was not even a month old and police say it appears to be a horrible accident.

Fresno Police investigators were called out to the apartment after a baby girl was found unresponsive last Friday. Detectives have mulled over the possibilities and after extensive research they have come to a sad conclusion.

Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said, "We do believe at this point and time that it is an accidental death involving the 6-year-old brother without the knowledge of the biological mother or her boyfriend."

The infant has been identified as 26 day old Dejalyn Hollins. You can see a recent photograph of the newborn in the video above.

Her mother is devastated and didn't want to talk on camera. Police are now relying on evidence from an autopsy to determine what injuries caused the baby's death. We are not identifying the 6-year-old because he is a minor.

"Based on the information that we gathered from them, the statements from the biological mother and boyfriend were corroborated by the physical evidence and a statement provided to us by the 6-year-old child," said Chief Dyer.

Investigators will not get into specifics about where the child's mother was at the time the baby was fatally hurt. They will also not disclose what her brother did that caused the tragedy. The 6-year-old is now in the custody of Child Protective Services while the investigation continues.

The infant's mother did share a picture of her baby girl ... she called her little one her miss piggy. Funeral arrangements are pending. Her mother is working to set up a bank account for donations.
