Super Adoption gives homeless animal's second chance

FRESNO, Calif. The valley's annual "Super Adoption" featured about 500 hundred homeless animals from nearly 20 shelters and rescue groups from all over the valley.

Organizers say the event is meant to be a one stop shop for people looking for a pet but it also serves as a somber visual of just how great the overpopulation crisis is in the valley.

Saturday more than a 190 dogs found new homes including "Burt" the Chihuahua-Terrier mix.

"We actually went through all the cages and we were looking for that special one that was really relaxed and just hold him in your arms. You just need to know," Coty Geiser said.

More than two dozen cats also found new homes Saturday.

Organizers say for every animal adopted, two lives are saved.

The animal that goes home with a new family and another animal that will take its place in a shelter or foster family.
