Fresno mom to stand trial for allegedly stabbing 3-year-old son

FRESNO, Calif.

Prosecutors say 30-year-old Vanessa Rincon stabbed her son and threw him down a flight of stairs earlier this month.

Deputies escorted a shackled Vanessa Rincon out of the courtroom Friday after a Fresno judge decided there was enough evidence to try her for the attempted murder of her 3-year-old son Noah.

On May 4th Fresno police responded to a 911-emergency call for help at a Central Fresno apartment complex.

Several of the officers who found Noah critically injured in between two staircases told the judge what they saw.

Officer Gabriel Ramirez said, "His body was lifeless but I saw him attempting to open his eyes. He could barely open them up. Trying, struggling, and then they'd close again."

"After looking at him closely I observed several slit marks on the back of his shirt. After lifting up his shirt I observed he was stabbed several times in the back," said Officer Michael Martin.

Martin said the mother confessed to the crime at the scene. "She was screaming hysterically. Saying, 'Kill me. I just stabbed my baby. Give me the lethal injection.'"

Officer Dean Cardinale said he was shocked when Rincon told them to leave her son alone.

Cardinale: "I told her that we were going to help the victim."

Attorney: "And what did she say?"

Cardinale: 'I don't want you to help him. Let him die. He's a bad kid.'

Both the defense attorney and the district attorney did not want to comment on this case. Rincon will be arraigned in June. Until then she is being held on a $1.5 million bail.
