Report of Fresno boy in canal was false alarm

FRESNO, Calif. A passing motorist called 9-1-1 to say they saw a boy dangling another boy over the water. Another caller said they saw the child fall in the swift moving water. Divers and rescue workers searched the area between Peach and Chestnut, before learning that nobody fell in.

Lt. Tom Rowe said, "The two kids were playing on the canal bank, playing with each other, they were brothers, and fortunately no children did go into the canal, but until we could find the children and verify that we were on the side of caution had divers in the canal searching."

The boys were warned to stay away from the canal. The water is swift and very cold. Police say the passersby did the right thing by calling 9-1-1.
