Recognizing 62 Valedictorians from Bullard High School

FRESNO, California Eric Klein is signing year books like every other senior on the last days of school, but one thing sets him apart from classmates -- his GPA.

"I have a 4.29," said Klein.

He is one of Bullard High School's 62 valedictorians. These aren't all the valedictorians seen in the video, but if you take the class of nearly 30 students and double it -- it gives you an idea of the large number of students who will graduate with honors.

Vanessa Russell said, "It's a huge accomplishment."

We talked with a few of them about what it takes to maintain a 4.0 GPA or more for four years.

Alejandra Diaz said, "Prioritizing knowing what I want and exactly what's most important."

"There's a little bit of self discipline that goes into it," explained Elliott Owensby.

Kristi Yamamoto said, "By doing extra-curricular activities and AP classes."

Advance Placement classes puts grades above the 4.0 mark. Principal Brian Beck says the number one thing universities look at on a college application are academics -- and with recent cuts to higher education honors students have an edge. "They've limited the number of students they are admitting into college, so never has it been more important to have more honors to put on your application."

"I absolutely think it makes you more competitive," said Owensby.

As for who will give the big speech ...

Klein said, "Personally that's not something I will be doing."

Three valedictorians have already been chosen to address their graduating class.
