Man shot after confrontation with Clovis Police

CLOVIS, Calif.

This is the shotgun investigators say 37-year-old Kevin Hill used to threaten his estranged wife, then officers.

The confrontation happened around 1 a.m. in the backyard of this home near Old Town Clovis. Officers say hill refused to obey orders to drop his shotgun.

"He had a gun and he threatened to use the gun," said Calli Baiggi with the Clovis Police Department.

That's when one officer shot hill in the chest. He was taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno and is expected to survive.

Neither the officer nor Hill's estranged wife were hurt.

The investigation shut down Cherry Lane between Third and Fourth Street for several hours.

The officer -- whose name has not been released -- is on paid administrative leave pending the investigation.
