Injured Grizzlies' DeRosa likely done for the year

Fresno, CA

"It's a tough situation and it's been frustrating," said DeRosa. "You want to come over here and perform and live up to what they thought they were bringing over here, the person they thought. So for me it's been a frustrating two months and it's something hopefully I'll make them forget."

The 35-year-old DeRosa has a torn tendon sheath in his left wrist after off-season surgery didn't hold. He isn't afraid to show its painful effects, and says the only way to correct the problem is to have season ending surgery.

"Would that be the best thing for my career? Yeah I think so," DeRosa said. "I think me coming back 100% in 2011 is the right thing to do. The problem is you play a high energy very competitive sport in front of thousands of people every night and they expect to see the best."

What's troubling for DeRosa, is that he knows the injury is preventing him from playing his best.

"My pride is getting in the way and it should,' DeRosa said. "I'm sorry. I'm a prideful guy. I know what I bring to the table. I know what I've done in my career. And I know over the course of the last 380 at bats I'm a .200 hitter. That's a very frustrating thing to do, to come to work and know that you're going to fail."

But come 2011, DeRosa says failing will not be an option.

"After this second wrist surgery, I've got a vendetta to prove some people wrong."
