The conductor said that the train was traveling about fifty miles an hour when he saw the man. That's when the crew blew the horn and attempted to stop the train.
The conductor said the man continued to try to pull the cart off of the tracks, instead of getting out of the way. The impact sent the man flying about 150 feet.
Investigators say his death should serve as a reminder for everyone to stay off the tracks.
"Your life is not worth a shopping cart, or any item that you may drop or leave on the tracks," Sgt. George Bertsch said.
The victim's identity has not yet been released.
