Fresno's Mile High Karate Studio partners with Sony Pictures

FRESNO, Calif.

The punches ... the kicks ... and the blocks fly fast and furious inside the Mile High Karate Studio in Northeast Fresno.

These karate kids -- ages 4 to 54 -- train side by side in the martial arts. And lately ... there are a lot more of them.

Sascha Williams with Mile High Karate said, "We've seen a bump in enrollment and we see that the right people are coming in for the right reasons."

He can thank Hollywood for that.

Sony Pictures' remake "The Karate Kid" stars Jaden Smith as 12-year-old Dre Parker ... Living in China after his mother's latest career move.

Bullied in a strange land ... Dre turns to maintenance man Mr. Han ... played by Jackie Chan ... who is a master of kung fu.

Moviegoers have been receiving a flyer -- touting a free two-week "Karate Kid" trial offer at Mile High Karate as part of its promotional partnership with Sony Pictures.

12-year-old Isaiah Sims saw a little of himself in the movie. "I never got picked on but I would get mad and just take off and martial arts helped me just like it helped him."

How much it helped him ... Isaiah's parents could hardly believe.

Terry McCoy said, "His behavior at home has changed like 100%. He cleans his room, you know, he helps out."

At this dojo and at martial arts studios across the Valley, students say they're learning valuable lessons, that don't just apply here, but to their daily lives.

Williams says it's not about the fighting ... but the focus. "You do not work on this for one performance or to dominate somebody else. The only person you're really trying to master is yourself."

To be able to roll with the punches ... or whatever life kicks out.
