Fresno teens tied up in home invasion robbery

FRESNO, Calif.

Family members say the boys are shaken up, but not hurt. They were alone at their home at Millbrook and Turner when the three robbers broke in.

The twin boys you see huddled in front of their home had just survived the most frightening day of their 14 years. They tell police three men broke into the house while they were alone. The robbers pointed a gun at the boys and tied them up.

"They were really scared," said their sister Daisy Valencia. "One was tougher -- the smallest one -- but the other one was panicky. He was shocked. He was shaky."

The suspects broke down doors and went through every room in the house, stealing jewelry, iPods, and nearly everything of value. Then, they called for a getaway driver.

A little while later, one boy broke free from the ropes holding him to a chair. He freed his brother and they both ran for help. Police investigators say the boys gave them some good leads.

"The suspects are going to be adults," said Lt. Jon Papaleo. "It appears they're going to be in their late 20s, maybe early 30s."

Family members say the teens didn't resist the robbers. They think that may be the only reason the men never pulled the trigger.

"Thank God they're okay," said Valencia. "Things are replaceable. Jewelry? You can always buy more. iPods and stuff? They sell them again. But a person is not replaceable."

Valencia says it was the first time the boys were home alone.

After police collected evidence from the scene, the boys went to the police station to look through mug shots, trying to identify any of the suspects.

They told family members they thought they were tied up for about an hour, but police think it seemed longer than it was because they were so scared.

The family has lived at their Central Fresno home for 17 years and they say this is the first time anything bad has happened to them.
