Restaurant destroyed by fire in Selma

FRESNO, Calif.

The fire at Sal's Mexican Restaurant broke out sometime between 3 and 4 a.m. and investigators say it appears to have started near a cold storage unit. A couple thousand dollars worth of food was lost and the fire also spread to a delivery truck parked outside. Saturday morning, instead of caring for customers inside staff had to throw out left overs in a nearby dumpster. "I need an extreme makeover situation right here. Right now. No playing around," Karl Salazar said. "We're getting a bunch of phone calls right now, people really concerned. We had neighbors. We had people come in from Kingsburg, Hanford just to come help out with what happened." The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Meanwhile, there are still two Sal's for customers, one in Madera and one here in Fresno. The owner expects the Selma location to reopen in about a week.
