U.S. Senator Boxer touts her record on job creation during valley visit

FRESNO, Calif.

Senator Boxer's "Jobs for California" tour brought her to Fresno.

Boxer spoke at the Fresno Police Officers Association. She trumpeted her record on job creation. Boxer said, "Many police officers serving right here in Fresno have a job because I voted for the jobs bill, the Economic Recovery Act that my opponent would have voted no on."

Senator Boxer talked of how the economic stimulus bill has aided the state. She explained, "Direct jobs according to the governor is 150-thousand jobs in California - that's from the republican administration."

But outside the event supporters of her opponent, Carly Fiorina, called the bill an "epic fail." Izaak Pichardo wondered, "Where are these jobs that you said you created? We're all college students here. We're worried about the future. We're worried about what our life will be like after college."

ABC30 Political Analyst Tony Capozzi says the stimulus bill hasn't improved the valley's dismal unemployment rate. Capozzi asked, "Where are those jobs being created? It doesn't look like its coming down here in Fresno County and Madera and Tulare because we're so strongly oriented around agriculture."

Capozzi called job creation in the valley a tough sell for Senator Boxer. He said, "This isn't her strong area but she's here getting herself known again."

Boxer said, "The economic recovery act by itself isn't going to get us completely out of the woods. We've got to have private capital coming in."

Boxer also took offense to a comment last month made by Carly Fiorina about her hair. Fiorina was caught on an open mike saying, "God, what is that hair? Ha ha, so yesterday."

Boxer responded, "You know, if everybody in the state, male or female, who's ever had a bad hair day votes for me, we'll win in a landslide."

Senator Boxer has the support of the Fresno Police Officers Association while Fiorina earned the endorsement of Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims.
