Customers who get them will be billed at their regular flat rate for two months. After that, they will be charged for the amount of water they use. Right now the average customer pays nearly $28.00 a month based on the size of their lot.
The city says those who usually conserve water can expect to save money while others are worried about a spike in costs.
Metered customers will be billed every month instead of every two months -- but don't expect to see the new bills before the end of the year. That's when the Department of Utilities will complete an overhaul of its billing system.
