In Fresno County unemployment stands at 16%. Merced's rate is the highest and Madera is the only Valley County where the rate has gone down.

Nearly five-hundred people showed up for a job fair Friday. However, the hiring company only had twenty jobs available.

Officials at the State Employment Development Department -- say unemployment rates usually spike this time of year because more people are entering the workforce.

Since last month two-thousand government jobs were lost -- mostly temporary census jobs. The local farm industry gained three-thousand positions.

Jobs in industries like manufacturing, leisure and hospitality, and professional and business are up slightly. Housing, construction and retail jobs are still down.
