David McDonald has agreed to give two million dollars to build a new modern facility. The center will serve as a way to remember one of his beloved dogs -- who died after she was bitten by a snake at his rural estate.

Each year animal control officers in Clovis pick up around 35-hundred stray animals. More than one million dollars will still need to be raised to build the new facility.

The Clovis City Council voted Monday night to approve the pet center expansion. Construction on the Miss Winkles Pet Adoption Center is expected to begin sometime next spring.
