The bans will apply to its citizens and foreign visitors. The bans are being enacted by the Middle Eastern country over concerns that data from the devices is sent abroad. There are also concerns from the government over the inability to block objectionable content like pornography and some political web-sites.
Saudi Arabia is also considering a similar ban because of the same reasons.
Critics of the ban are accusing the country of censorship. There are an estimated half-million blackberry users in the United Arab Emirates.
