Deputies: 2 injured after gunmen shoot into crowd

FRESNO, Calif.

The shooting happened early Saturday morning on Joyce and Norris Drive East in the Mayfair district, which is a county island.

Fresno county sheriff's deputies say a number of people were standing outside a home where a party was taking place.

That's when several small compact cars drove by, and the people in two of those cars started shooting at the crowd. Investigators say the gunmen fired as many as 25 rounds before speeding off.

Two people were injured and are now recovering from non-life threatening injuries at Community Regional Medical Center.

Deputies say the outcome of the shooting could have been even worse.

"One of the rounds fired at a residence, fortunately no one was hurt but there were several people were asleep," Sgt. John Zanoni said.

Detectives are now searching for the suspects and their vehicles, which they describe as two acura type compact cars.
