Valley Firefighters to help with the Bodfish Fire

FRESNO, Calif.

Just before 6 a.m. Wednesday morning a Cal Fire strike team gathered at the U.S. Forest Office in East Central Fresno. From there they left to Kern County where they will help fight the Bodfish Fire burning east of Bakersfield.

The strike team that left this morning includes five engines and about 20 firefighters. More strike teams from Fresno Cal Fire could leave for Kern County later today.

So far the Bodfish fire has burned about 5,000 acres. The Kern County Fire Department, the U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management are trying to contain the flames. They expect to have the fire under control by Friday.

But a mandatory evacuation is in place for residents in the tiny community of Valley View, a portion of Havilah and people along Bodfish Canyon Road.
