44-year-old Diane Romero was found dead in her backyard Thursday morning. Police found her husband -- 41-year-old Rudolfo Romero -- not far away suffering from stab wounds. Investigators have not said how Rudolfo was injured, but they believe he is responsible for his wife's murder. Neighbors are still struggling to with the loss of the popular third grade teacher.
Rudolfo Romero under 24 hour guard while he recovers at a Modesto hospital. He'll be transferred to the Merced County Jail when he's released. The couple has two teenage children -- now under the care of their grandparents.
