Summer refuses to go away

FRESNO, Calif.

The entire state is being blanketed by unseasonably hot temperatures. It was 98 degrees in Sacramento Monday and triple digits here in Fresno. San Luis Obispo with temperatures about 25 degrees higher than normal, and heat in Los Angeles like they haven't seen since the 1800's. Each of the major regions is feeling temperatures warmer than usual for late-September.

The Los Angeles area was baking Monday with temperatures that would be considered hot even if it was mid July. The 113-degree reading at noon today represents the hottest temperature in downtown L.A since researchers began keeping records in 1877.

The Los Angeles Department of Water And Power advises customers to conserve energy to prevent overtaxing the city's electrical system.

Air quality warnings are in effect for Los Angeles and Ventura counties and the Santa Clarita Valley.
