Sikh community parade in Fowler

FRESNO, Calif.

Members of the valley's Sikh community walked six miles from the Fowler temple into the city of Fowler in a procession that numbered in the thousands.

November is a key month in the Sikh religion as it marks the birth of the religion's founder.

Throughout the month, people celebrate with processions, and festivities but they're also hoping today's parade will help provide a better understanding of their culture to others.

"We're here to pass on as much information as we can to share our community with our heritage and our tradition with the rest of our American brothers and sisters," Manvinder Singh said.

The California assembly recently passed a resolution naming November as California Sikh American awareness and appreciation month and members of the Sikh community say they're using the month to share their culture with others.
