Head-on collision in Madera Co.

The California Highway Patrol says the driver of this green Pontiac lost control of the vehicle and crossed into oncoming traffic, hitting another vehicle head-on.

Both vehicles ended up on the side of the road and fire crews had to use the Jaws of Life to free both drivers out of their vehicles.

The accident left five people injured, including two who were flown via helicopter with what are described as major injuries.

At this point, investigators aren't sure why the driver lost control.
