Madera man plead not guilty in double fatal dui crash

MADERA, Calif.

Only still cameras were allowed inside the courtroom during the hearing.

Investigators say 55-year-old Richard Farias was under the influence and driving about 110 miles per hour when he flipped his car on Avenue 12 in Madera last month.

38-year-old Marcel Rodriguez and 53-year-old Deborah Lyon died. A third passenger was seriously hurt.

Action News learned Farias had been arrested twice before on DUI charges and spent 35 days in jail in 2005.

The parents of one of the victims attended Wednesday's hearing and had a message.

The victim's mother, Viola Rodriguez said, "We don't want the courts to take that lightly that there were two people killed and there was an innocent person who is still recuperating."

Farias is now being held without bail. He's scheduled to be back in court next week.
