Investigators: man shot trying to rob video game store

FRESNO, Calif.

Investigators say three armed men entered a video game store at Clinton and Brawley with their handguns drawn around 11:20 Saturday night. An employee at the Play N' Trade store feared for his life and opened fire on the men.

The three suspects managed to escape out a back door, and detectives believe they had a get-away car waiting in a nearby neighborhood. A police helicopter and K9 units were called in to help search for them.

Just minutes later, officers received a call about a person lying in the street bleeding near Milburn and Sussex.

That's only about a mile and a half away from the video game store. When police arrived at the second scene, they found the man dead.

Investigators believe he may be one of the suspects from the attempted robbery, who was shot by the store employee.

"While we're not certain the two events are connected... we believe because of the location and the timing that the body at the location of Millburn and Sussex is probably one of the suspects of the robbery here," Lt. Burke Farrah said.

The coroner's office is now working to identify the man who was shot. Crime scene investigators remained in the area overnight, interviewing witnesses and gathering surveillance video from stores in the area.

They're still searching for the other suspects from the robbery attempt.
