Police arrest suspected Dapper Bandit

FRESNO, Calif.

Federal agents arrested 41-year-old John Richard Martinez of Fresno last night while he was trying to enter the U.S. from Mexico.

The F.B.I. gave Martinez the name "dapper bandit" because he wore a sport coat and beret during his robberies while brandishing a black semi-automatic pistol. He wore the outfit when he robbed a bank in San Diego on Monday as well as two banks in the valley.

Martinez is believed to have robbed a Bank of America in Northeast Fresno on Cedar and Shepherd on November 17-th and a Rabobank in Tulare in December. He is also accused of a robbing someone in the parking lot of the Tachi Palace Casino in Lemoore. Martinez is also suspected in five other robberies stretching from Fresno to San Diego.

He's expected to be arraigned on Monday.
