National Parks waive entrance fee on MLK holiday

FRESNO, Calif.

The National Park Service waived the entrance fee to parks across the country for the weekend in an effort to boost attendance.

One Yosemite Park ranger has made it his mission to attract more African Americans to Yosemite which only account for two percent of visitors. Ranger Shelton Johnson invited Oprah Winfrey to the park last October, and the national attention seemed to work spread the message.

"Even if you never been there, you own it, it belongs to you," said Johnson.

Oprah's influence last year enticed one family to come to Yosemite all the way from the Bay Area. It was his first trip in 15 years.
