Arson fire at Fresno's Shining Star Preschool

FRESNO, Calif.

Investigators say the fire happened Sunday morning before sunrise at Northwest Church, in the area of West and Barstow.

The eight classrooms of the 'Shining Star Preschool' at Northwest Church reek of smoke. And on this Monday the teachers and staff were stripping everything from each of them instead of teaching.

The cause? A deliberately set trash can fire placed at the now boarded up glass window.

Darrell Fifield said, "Somebody thought well, 'let's see what happens,' and started this fire. Maybe even watched the fire trucks roll up. Who knows?"

The man leading the effort to right this wrong knows the families count on the children's preschool.

Monday morning found a restoration crew cleaning walls, windows, floors and more. Whoever caused it aside there is work to be done and families in need.

Fifield said, "We're looking into some options as far as how soon we can open up and of course what part of the space is useable at this time, and of course two hundred families are having to make-do as we're sorting it out."

For now the staff is working to right the wrong done to this popular church's campus and the children and parents who rely on its services.

The Fresno Fire Department arrived on the scene in less four minutes and found a second arson fire that had burned itself out.
