NASA rocket fails in satellite launch

FRESNO, Calif.

The Taurus XL rocket carrying NASA's Glory Satellite lifted off just after 2 a.m. Friday morning from Vandenberg Air Force Base in Santa Barbara County. Just minutes into the flight the protective shell covering the satellite failed to separate and as a result the rocket did not have enough speed to enter the proper orbit.

The glory earth-observation satellite would have analyzed how airborne particles affect earth's climate.
