FUSD layoffs approved following marathon session

The vote came after six hours of discussions and protests by district employees and teachers.

The board says 522 jobs will have to be cut. Pink slips will be going out 257 teachers next week.

The rest would be eliminated through attrition, people retiring or quitting. These layoff notices are not final.

The exact number of eliminated positions won't be known until the district's budget is finalized for next year.
