Broadway's 'Spider-Man' postponed 'til summer

NEW YORK

Taymor, who directed and co-wrote the book for "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark," still be part of the creative team, the producers said.

"The team will be implementing a new plan to make significant and exciting revisions to the production," lead producers Michael Cohl and Jeremiah J. Harris said in a statement. "This amended schedule will allow the time necessary to execute the plan, which will include revisions to the script."

Philip William McKinley and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa have joined the production to assist with new staging and rewrites for the show, which was to have opened on March 15. Musical consultants Paul Bogaev and sound designer Peter Hylenski are also on the new team.

Taymor's directing duties will be handled by McKinley

All this comes as the production, which is in previews, suffered another embarrassing accident Wednesday night. A fight between Spider-Man and the Green Goblin came to an abrupt halt when the Green Goblin's aerial steering mechanism malfunctioned.

While the Goblin dangled and Spider-Man stood on a balcony ledge waiting to fly, the actors mugged for the laughing crowd. A stage manager finally told the audience that the stunt would have to be canceled for safety reasons.
