They left Friday night after loading up 74 tons of equipment, including swift water rescue gear and medical supplies.
The 74 person team is made up of firefighters, paramedics, doctors, and building experts. They're also bringing six K-9 teams trained to search through rubble for survivors.
Members of this team have assisted with many major disasters, including hurricane Katrina. And some of them had just returned from helping with earthquake relief efforts in New Zealand.
They're expected to arrive in Japan on Sunday.
About 600 sailors and pilots from Lemoore Naval Air Station are also on their way to Japan to help with disaster relief efforts. They're aboard the U.S.S. Ronald Reagan.
The aircraft carrier was just deployed to the northeast coast of Japan. It's expected to arrive in a few days.
