Robbery suspect caught after bicycle getaway

FRESNO, Calif.

Cops say the robbers hit a Food King and Liquor Store on First and McKinley just after midnight, but they were sloppy and it didn't take long to catch them.

Yellow police tape marked the spot where police say a pair of armed robbers struck early Thursday morning. Investigators say the men stole between $50 and $100 at gunpoint then left on bicycles.

Officers spotted them just down the street. "They quickly detained one that actually fled from them and dropped a loaded silver revolver into a trash can," said Mike Doyle with the Fresno Police Department.

Investigators found the gun in a dumpster and seized the bike as well. They say the suspect was messy as he tried to escape and he was carrying a pocket full of cash, apparently from the store.

"As you can see, there's even a dollar bill on the concrete as he was shoving the money into his pocket."

Officers tracked the other suspect about a mile down the street and took him into custody as well.

Police arrested a third man as well, but they're not sure if he was involved because store surveillance video only shows two people.
