Current University of San Francisco head coach Rex Walters has been mentioned in various media reports as a possible candidate for the Bulldog job. But I spoke with a source inside the USF athletic department today, who told me Walters is under contract through the 2015 season, and the school has not been approached by Fresno State for permission to speak with him.

For the second straight week, Bulldog right hander Mackenzie Oakes earned WAC Pitcher of the Week honors. The junior threw two complete game gems over the weekend at Louisiana Tech. Fresno State is now 10-0 when she starts in the circle.

Also earning WAC honors: senior right hander Greg Gonzalez. He improves to 5-0 on the year by striking out 10 USD Toreros in seven innings of work last Friday. Gonzalez carries a .90 ERA on the season. This is his third WAC Pitcher of the Week honor of the year.

And the Bulldog football team did an about face, giving their practice field another day to dry out and opting instead for Central high school's Koligian Stadium. Quarterback Derek Carr celebrated his 20th birthday by getting in more work as he tries to familiarize himself with his receivers. Head coach Pat Hill and company are next scheduled to practice on Wednesday back on campus.
