The Clovis Fire Chief says a man wrecked his car at Clovis and Shaw around 9:42 Thursday night.
He first crashed into the median, then accelerated towards Sierra Vista Mall and went up the embankment into some junipers. Investigators say he may have confused the gas pedal for the brakes.
His car caught fire, and the flames spread to some bushes. Three people stopped to help and had to break a window to get him out.
The man was not injured. Police arrested the man for driving under the influence. He was the only person in the car.
