Lemoore based jet catches fire in Persian Gulf

FRESNO, Calif.

The Navy says an engine on an F/A-18-C Hornet caught fire during landing on Monday. It was performing a "touch and go" landing on the USS Carl Vinson, serving in the Persian Gulf.

The flight deck crew put out the fire quickly and no one was hurt. The pilot is part of NAS Lemoore's VFA-113 Squadron.

This is just the latest incident for the F/A-18 fleet. Two weeks ago -- an F/A-18-C caught fire on the John C. Stennis carrier off the coast of San Diego. That jet was based out of Miramar.

Just last week, an F/A-18-F Super Hornet crashed near Lemoore. Two on board were killed.
