Pepsi truck overturns on SB HWY 99 after hit & run

FRESNO, Calif.

It happened in the southbound lanes of Highway 99, just south of the Herndon off ramp.

The Pepsi truck spilled most of its cargo into a field. The incident closed one southbound lane of 99 … causing traffic to back up. Officers say the driver was trapped in his truck for a short time.

CHP Officer Gil Peirsol said, "They had to use the jaws of life and they did have to extricate the driver of the Pepsi truck. It took a substantial amount of time, it probably took an hour to get him out of there, but hopefully he'll be okay."

Paramedics took the driver to Community Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. Investigators say the car that clipped the big rig did not stop. The car was last seen exiting Highway 99 at Shaw.
