FRESNO, Calif.

Farmers have been harvesting about a ton an acre. The president of the California Alfalfa And Forage Association says the quality is excellent.

The crop comes as an alfalfa shortage hits the west, pushing prices higher. Prices are as much as $275 a ton.

Capital Press Reports, hay supplies should be ample this year as long as the weather cooperates.

Blueberry harvest has begun.

California-grown berries should reach stores soon. The California Blueberry Commission says it expects the total harvest to be about the same size as last year's. Its says quality will be good.

New acreage is coming into production, but some farmers in the Delta region lost much of their crop to hail and other weather problems.
