Welty outlines a gloomy Fresno State budget forecast

FRESNO, Calif.

Welty said Fresno State could have to cut $20-million and turn away 600 students. "We're already almost at the bone so our only choice frankly would be to start removing courses from the schedule serving much, many fewer students than we are able to serve

Welty says the immediate problem is uncertainty over whether a tax increase will go before the voters. Welty joined other cal-state university presidents, last week, in telling the governor there's been enough cuts to education.
