5 in custody after shooting, police chase in NW Fresno

FRESNO, Calif.

Investigators say it all started around midnight when officers heard shots fired at a house party near Hughes and Courtland in Northwest Fresno. Then they saw the white car speeding away.

Officers chased the car for a short distance before one of the suspects got of the car and ran.

The other four kept going until the driver suddenly slammed on his brakes, causing the police car to slam into them.

Officers used a taser on one suspect who tried running away.

All five people are now in custody, and authorities say no one was hurt in the shooting or the chase.

"At this point we are not aware that anyone has been shot or injured by gunfire and again our investigation is progressing at this location," Lt. Tom Rowe said.

Investigators found a loaded handgun in the area. They're still trying to figure out what led to the shooting.
